Public Lighting

One of the main areas of business for Augier SA is the design, development and manufacture of equipment used for Medium Voltage electricity distribution. The MV technology enables electrical transformation and distribution over distances up to 20 km without the disadvantages of High Voltage and Low Voltage systems.

The Augier SA product range provides the opportunity to deliver energy at remote locations from a main delivery point, which can be either High Voltage (20 kV) or Low Voltage (400 V). The Step-down or Step-up transformers transform the energy to the distribution voltage level at 5,500 V or 3,200 V depending on the customer requirements. (Equipment for voltages below 7,200 V can be supplied on request)

Medium Voltage networks are very appropriate for electricity distribution applications along motorways, bridges and tunnels. Other main types of applications are parking areas, factories, hippodromes and race circuits, military bases and general public lighting systems. The Augier MV networks can also be used, with great benefits, for electricity distribution at airports.

Main Benefits of HTIééé

  • The Medium Voltage networks eliminate the need for large cross-section cables (thicker than 25 mm2), which provides cost savings up to 30% compared to conventional installations.
  • The Medium Voltage technology also provides the benefits of reduced operation costs and simpler electrical connections.
  • The Augier SA solution offers opportunities for easy network extensions and the buriable Step-down transformers makes it possible to deliver Low Voltage at the point of consumption.

Substation Equipment

Our substation facilities are fitted with equipment that allows you to step up or step down to Medium Voltage. The substations are also useful to control, protect and monitor the lighting network.

Dry Type Tranformers

Our power transformers allow either a step down from High Voltage (11kV to 33kV, depending on the specific country standard) to Medium Voltage using oil filled or epoxy resin transformers, or a step up from Low Voltage to Medium Voltage using dry type impregnable transformers.

Network Transformers

Our network transformers are made in epoxy resin, and are designed so they can be safely buried underground near to the lamp-post receivers - stepping down from Medium Voltage to Low Voltage. The network transformers are practical to use; the connections can be easily unplugged/plugged, and the transformer has IP 68 class protection.

Public Lighting Remote Control System

The public Lighting Remote Control System (STEP) provides remote control and remote signalling of lights supplied by 3200V or 5500V networks (medium voltage) or by 950V networks (Maximum Low Voltage). STEP is a communication system with a power carrier line technology  using power cable for transport  and distribution.

Regulator - Variators

The regulator - variators are installed with the substation; they have two functions:- to compensate for fluctuations in input voltage and to vary the output voltage. The level of brightness in the lights can be varied, depending on the amount of traffic. This results in a reduction in energy consumption and hence a reduction in maintenance (the lights last longer)  - a double reduction in cost.
